Location, Costumes and Props list
Location, Costumes and Props
Location
For my photo shoot I decided to take some of the images in my
model’s bedroom, therefore I could use the plain walls and natural light to
portray a studio-like look. I wanted to use the natural light when taking my
images to reduce the chances of my images being shadowed or any uneven areas of
lighting around her face/body. However, to experiment with other ideas I also
took some images against a brick wall to try and achieve an edgy/grunge look to
fit in with the genre and style of my magazine. For my second photo shoot I took
the images against a green screen, this was to achieve a studio look finish and
use the studio lights which give the images a professional look.
Costumes
The costumes used in my photo shoot consisted of three
slightly different looks, one included a burgundy Harrington jacket with a
black top, the second style was a black top and skirt with a denim jacket and
the final costume choice was a flannel shirt. I carefully chose these outfits
to fit in with the genre of my magazine and the age range of the target
audience, when considering these factors I chose stylish yet fairly indie
clothes combinations that I thought are popular among teens/young adults. It
was important to choose the right costumes for my model as this is what I hope
will entice the audience to read my magazine. However, for my second photo
shoot the images I have taken one of my models is wearing a flannel shirt and
black jeans and the other model being pictured is wearing blue jeans, a cream
jumper and a navy coat (only in some images). These are very casual costumes
that create a very friendly and up to date with fashion demands and by using a
male model this will attract the male audience as they may be able to relate
and have an interest in the clothes he is wearing/him as a person, finding him
intriguing.
Props
The only prop used was in my second photo shoot and was a
chair which the male model uses to sit on, I have chosen to use this as a prop
because it gives the images a casual and approachable look, meaning it will
hopefully entice more of the target audience. It also shows a sense of variety
in the images with the different poses used.

Font Mood Board Analysis
Font Mood Board Analysis
For my font mood board I gathered a selection of fonts which were all slightly if not very different, this was to see what font would look the best in comparison to others. I included serif and sans serif fonts along with abstract fonts to see which would appeal most to my target audience. Due to my target audience being the younger generation (teenagers/young adults) I tried to include more sans serif fonts as other magazines aimed at this age are mostly made up of these sorts of fonts. Sans serif fonts are also thought to look more friendly and inviting than serif fonts so by using the right font for my masthead this will hopefully make my magazine more successful. When looking for appropriate fonts to include I tried to pick bold and eye catching fonts as they would be more noticeable to the target audience when among other magazines. Sans serif fonts are also used to portray a fun mood, whereas serif fonts are considered more serious and targeted towards the older audience, so by including sans serif fonts on my cover this will hopefully give my magazine a fun sort of mood, making it more successful.

Colour Mood Board Analysis
Colour Mood Board Analysis
From gathering information from my questionnaire on various different design ideas my target audience would like to see I was able to create a mood board including bright colours, neutral colours and greyscale colours. However, the results from my questionnaire showed that a magazine with bright colours on the cover would entice more buyers than a cover with darker colours would, considering this I ensured my mood board was created with mostly bright colours such as reds, blues, oranges etc. By also including other colours it will allow me to see what darker colours contrast with the brighter colours, to see if this would be an effective way to base my magazine colour theme around. A bright colour scheme would give my magazine a more friendly and happy mood, which would hopefully get the target audience’s attention and encourage them to buy the magazine. Whereas darker colours may not be as inviting and could possibly be less noticeable amongst other magazines. Due to my target audience being teenagers/young adults they are more likely to buy a magazine based on the front cover, so by having a bright and possibly contrasting colour theme this will hopefully make my magazine more successful.

Target Audience Mood Board Analysis
Target Audience Mood Board Analysis
The
mood board I created for my target audience includes things such as what they
would wear, where they would eat, what car they would own and what they would
do in their day to day life. Due to the target audience of the magazine I’m
going to create being late teens/young adults I included universities as when
carrying out my research on NME and Q 29% of their readers were students,
giving me the idea for my target audience. From researching NME and Q the target
audience for my magazine will be interested in indie/alternative bands such as
Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and many more, they will also have a strong interest in
films and TV programs. The audience I’m targeting are quite young and will
presumably be living at home so I included high end clothing brands as this
generation are commonly associated with the brands included, such as Vivienne
Westwood and Fred Perry. In their spare time they would probably attend
festivals for fun but the ones that are on my mood board are V Festival,
Latitude and T in the Park as these tend to not include main stream bands.
Advertiser's Mood Board Analysis
Advertiser's Mood Board Analysis
For my
advertiser’s mood board I have created includes various things such as what
technology companies, clothing brands, car companies, music stores and camera
companies would be interested in advertising my magazine. Due to my target
audience being fairly mainstream with interest in the newest music across most
genres all of the companies I have put on my mood board are fairly popular and
recent, this is to entice the audience. My target audience are going to be
ranged from 17-25 so they are going to be up to date with the latest
technology, cars and music being shown from the companies included on my mood
board. My magazine will not only include detailed music reviews and information
on different musicians there will also be a section dedicated to films and
television with reviews and the latest releases, this is because the target
audience are commonly known for spending their spare time watching TV
programs and/or films on popular sites such as Netflix. As for clothing
companies that would be potential advertisers for my magazine I have included
popular shops such as H and M and Zara, and for branding I have put Fred Perry
as these are all common among the target audience.
